Epidaurus - Mycenae - Nafplion - Lions Gate - Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus... Mycenae and Epidaurus 2-Day Trip From Athens

Mycenae is an archaeological site near Mikines in Greece, located southwest of Athens, in the north-eastern Peloponnese. From the hill on which the palace was located, one can see across the Argolid to the Saronic Gulf. Epidaurus was a small city in ancient Greece, on the Argolid Peninsula at the Saronic Gulf.

Epidaurus, was very popular during the ancient times, due to the Asclepeion, that was the most celebrated healing center of the Classical world and also due to the Theatre. The ancient theatre of Epidaurus is known to the entire world until nowadays, for the amazing acoustics, the symmetry and the beauty.

Our Tour «Mycenae and Epidaurus 2-Day Trip From Athens» will introduce you to the sublime nature and important monuments of East Peloponnese.

Day One: The morning finds you on the highway by the coast along the Saronic Gulf, towards the Canal of Corinth for a short stop. This man-made incision connects the Aegean Sea to the Ionian Sea. We are driving towards the archaeological site of Mycenae. This is the Homeric city of Atreides, where the legendary King Agemenon ruled and was in charge of the Greeks during the Trojan war. As we enter the citadel, we pass through its main entrance and we meet the Lion’s Gate. We can admire the Cyclopean Walls that protected this city. The walls were believed to have been built by Giants. We visit the excavated sites, the Royal Tombs and much more...

Our next destination is a pleasant surprise. The drive to this marvellous little city passes through the fertile plain of Argolis. As we enter the golf of Nafplion, you encounter the sweetest view of a picturesque town that nestles at the foot of a Huge cliff, crowned by the mighty ramparts of the Palamidi Fortress. It is time for a quick stop for the purpose of photo shooting and we will enter Nafplion, where we settle for dinner and rest.

Day Two: The second day starts with an energy boosting breakfast at our hotel. All participants of this tour will have free time during the morning and the afternoon so as to explore this colourful, tiny city, that the Venetians called «Naples of Greece».

We leave Nafplio so as to visit the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. An ancient theatre that dates back to the 4th-century b.C. and has been famous for its astonishing acoustics for centuries.

We are on our way back to Athens, on the national road that connects Epidaurus to Corinth. Only then we realize that this is the end of our Mycenae and Epidaurus 2-Day Trip From Athens.
